Open call for compositions to be performed at our Freedom Principle series…

During the Not Part Of festival in Manchester in July, Efpi Records is presenting an evening of brand new music which will be performed by the Freedom Principle Quintet – a veritable supergroup of musicians involved with Efpi, led by Ben Cottrell and Anton Hunter from the label’s two flagship ensembles, the Beats & Pieces Big Band and HAQ. Each member of the quintet will be contributing their own compositions, and Efpi are inviting musicians to submit work of their own to be workshopped by the band and potentially included in the set. If you’re a budding composer, then read the terms and conditions below and send all submissions to anton@efpirecords.com by Sun 26 June.
Terms & Conditions
Compositions should be for any combination of: Saxophone, Trumpet, Guitar, Bass, Drums
They should be written out clearly, preferably in Sibelius or similar format, or as a simple leadsheet.
We can’t guarantee to perform everything submitted, we will pick tunes that a) we like best and b) that gel best with the full band. Our decision is final!

Silence Blossoms are dead excited to be heading out on the road together for the first time, there’s been a long and unhappy pause in activity for us so we’re itching to get playing again. We’ll be starting off in Trondheim with a few days rehearsing, then following the first gig on the 25th of April we head off around Norway, Sweden and Denmark. If you haven’t heard the band yet you can check some of our Youtube clips or visit our myspace. We’re also planning to do some live recording during the tour so hopefully there will be some material for you to download soon. Apologies to all of you in the UK, we’ll be coming over to the island at some point in the future I’m sure. They’re both super low-fi recording (mac microphone) of the first ever run through of each pieces (Alex couldn’t make the rehearsal so I had to play Casio Keyboard;-).
